What's up with Infinite Buddha? The Site Welcome to the home of Infinite Buddha. You're not alone. Since this site went up in June of 99, there have been over 40,000 downloads of my MP3 files. The response has been overwhelmingly positive and I'd like to thank everyone who took a moment and filled out the survey or droped me at jason <at> silveratlas.com. The high point of the summer had to be when one of the tunes, El Yucateco, was chosen as a Rollingstone.com Editor's Pick in August. Other reviews can be found at listen.com, riffage.com, mp3Place.com or changemusic.com. The Sound The labels applied to electronic music confuse the hell out of me, so I find it somewhat difficult to try and give you a reference by way of a particular genre. I usually end up being lumped into electronica, trip-hop, and (sometimes) ambient. The songs are mostly built around guitar or bass loops and many of them have a bit of an old-school funk feel. Why don't you tune in and find out for yourself. |

NEW! Listen to tracks from my new project ... Silver Atlas. El Yucateco Loose and funky. This is a guitar oriented number that features an attempt at those corny 70's be-bop style vocals (a la Burt Backrach). MP3 audio (5.0 M) Real Audio Byzantium Welcome to Byzantium! Rave on. MP3 audio (3.8 M) Litefoot This is really like 2 songs. Firstly it's all ambient, and then it turns into kind of a gutter funk. Someday, I'll split it into 2 MP3s. MP3 audio (4.7 M) Livin' Large This is the most jamminest of the group, and is my ode to a resurgent Detroit. The fuzzy guitar is played by Dave Corradi. MP3 audio (5.6 M) Real Audio Sun Comes Up This was constructed out of some left over ideas of the next song, Patroclus is Dead. MP3 audio (4.2 M) Real Audio Patroclus is Dead Hmmm. About 9 minutes long, this grew from an 8 bar bassline. This was my first attempt at writing with looped audio segments. MP3 audio (8.3 M) Real Audio |

Silver Atlas is the name of the new project I've been working on.
Silver Atlas consists of myself, Alan Ruffin and Darren. Al is the principal
vocalist and songwriter. We both handle production chores. Darren
contributes his guitar wizardry.
Always Too Late This is the first song we did. Recorded in August of 2001, it has an ethereal rock feel. MP3 audio (3.3 M) No Angry Words This song was completed in November of 2001. This is a mellow number. MP3 audio (3.6 M) 4 a.m. Completed just in time for the year 2002, this song is composed of remnants of "No Angry Words". This is the closest thing we've got to booty music. MP3 audio (2.6 M) |

Real Audio Real Audio is currently the best method available for quickly broadcasting audio over the internet. The format can be used with normal bandwith speeds of 28.8 kbs and up (not sure about 14.4 kbs). If you don't have a high speed modem connection (T1, broadband and the like), then Real Audio is the only means of streaming audio over the web. Streaming refers to the practice of receiving audio (or video) in a small steady trickle of infomation, which mimicks conventional broadcasting. Streaming negates the need to download an entire file before you can listen to it. Unfortunately, the quality of Real Audio leaves much to be desired. The real audio files on this site optimized for 56K connection and have been reduced to mono (which causes some sonic problems). A Real Audio player can be downloaded from www.realaudio.com MP3 MP3, on the other hand, delivers excellent audio that rivals the quality of Compact Discs. The drawback of this format is that the files are much larger than Real Audio files. It is possible to stream MP3 files, but a high speed internet connection is required to do so. If streaming isn't an option, you can still download the files and play them locally. File sizes vary by program length and are typically about a meg per minute of audio. There are many free MP3 players available. I recommend WinAmp, which can be found at winamp.com. |
